APPLIED VEHICLES:
All Nissan Models with SRS Systems
SERVICE INFORMATION
Information necessary to service the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) safely is included in the "RESTRAINTS" section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for each vehicle.
IMPORTANT :
Turn the ignition switch OFF; disconnect both battery terminals; and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service on the SRS.
Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to a serious injury or death caused by unintentional activation of the SRS.
In addition to the cautions and warnings in the ESM, the following provides additional safety precautions:
^
Do not use power tools (air or electric) when working near the diagnosis sensor unit (mounted on the vehicle floor) with the ignition switch ON. For example, when removing or installing a front seat or center console, or when working underneath the vehicle near the diagnosis sensor unit.
^
Use of power tools (air or electric) can vibrate the vehicle floor. If the battery cables are connected and the ignition switch is ON, these vibrations can be detected by the diagnosis sensor unit and activate the SRS.
^
Do not use a hammer (or any similar object) when working near the side air bag (satellite) sensor (mounted on the B-pillar) with the ignition switch ON. For example, when adjusting the front door striker with a hammer.
^
Use of a hammer (or similar object) near the side air bag (satellite) sensor can vibrate the B-pillar. If the battery cables are connected and the ignition switch is ON, these vibrations can be detected by the diagnosis sensor unit and activate the SRS.
