'99 Pontiac Grand AM, Push Rod Arrangement
Q:
I was
working on the engine on my 99 Pontiac Grand AM with a 3.4 liter
engine. The push rods got mixed up and I need to know the correct order
of installation.

Dont
you just love it when stuff like that happens? Its a good thing
that you stopped to ask that question. If you had guessed wrong on assembling
the push rods in the wrong position there would be no telling what problems
or damage that could have occurred. If you look closely youll find
that the push rods for the intake valves are 5 ¾ inches long
and they should have yellow stripes. The exhaust valve push rods are 6
inches long and should have green stripes for identification. You should
also be aware that there is a revised torque procedure for the rocker
arms. ALLDATA Information Systems show GM Bulletin # 02-06-01-034 addressing
a manual revision for tightening the rocker arm assemblies. The revised
procedure calls for the rocker arm fasteners to be torqued to (124 lb
in) and then turned an additional 30 degrees for your engine application.
