Windstar, Interior Lights Staying On
Q: We have a ‘96 Windstar and recently the interior lights and door
ajar light is staying on. This occurred after we opened the rear lift
gate. I have not be able to find the problem and fear it is an internal
electrical problem. Is there a simple solution? We have to pull fuses
so as not to kill the battery. Although there is a fail safe battery saver
I am not willing to risk it. Can you provide any assistance?.....Steve
A: If
I were to guess I’d say one of the rear lift gate ajar switches is broken.
Your vehicle is equipped with a left and right rear lift gate ajar switch.
There are 2 ways to approach this problem. You can do it the old fashioned
way by going to the rear of the vehicle and finding the lift gate switches
and check them for problems. Or have a computer connected to your vehicle’s
computer for the answer. Yup, that’s right even the switches to the rear
tail gate of your vehicle are involved and monitored by an on-board computer.
With the right equipment one can monitor and function test the switches
on the doors and rear gate.
