00 Dodge Ram Diesel, Starter fuse
Q:
I have a ‘00 Dodge Ram that always cranks fine in warm weather, but when it gets below 40 degrees it will blow the 20 amp starter fuse while cranking the engine. Sometimes the fuse is blown after startup when it is cold.
A:
The problem you’re having with your Dodge is not common. In fact, it is common enough that Dodge has a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and repair kit to correct the cause. ALLDATA Information Systems shows TSB # 08-01-00 addressing this problem on 2000-2001 Ram Trucks and 2000 Ram Vans. The fix it right kit includes a relay, wiring harness, jumper kit and it takes about ˝ and hour or so to install. This is not a recall, so it is not free unless the vehicle is under warranty.
