'99 Cadillac Deville, Fishy Oil Consumption
Q: I have a 99 Cadillac
Deville that I just purchased. The warranty will be in existence for up
to 70k miles. It has a certified extended warranty. It has 62k miles.
It uses a quart of oil every 200-300 miles. The dealer stated that this
is normal. Is that really so? It sounds fishy to me.

A:
Adam, it may sound fishy but following your Cadillac brings a whole new
meaning to the term oil burner. It sounds to me, that the previous owner
had a problem and traded that problem away and now youre the proud
owner of the problem. Any engine that is pounding down a quart of oil
in 200 to 300 miles has a problem and it is in no way normal. Youd
better start documenting and complaining fast before the warranty runs
out. After that, that check book will take one heck of a hit to correct
the problem.
